Lamp Shade DIY

I think I have the ugliest light fixture ever!
It's hanging over our dining room table.

I hate sitting at the table all because of that darn light! Thankfully help was on the way!
I was browsing blogs and came across this great tutorial at The Keylor family.
She was having the same problem..with the same light fixture!
I immediately went out a got some of the materials to start this DIY magic!
I did it a little different than she did at first, but it totally didn't work!

I started with 2 dowels that were left over from my DIY Sunburst mirror
and I purchased one 18' embroidery hoop from Michaels

I opened the hoop and now I have two!

I measured and cut down the dowels to the size I wanted the shade.
I attached them with the glue gun!

I first attached brown fabric

Then white over because I was worried that with just the white it would be totally see through.
Both fabrics are curtains.
The white one is actually a shower curtain that I found at Marshalls for 5.99!

Using tacks from the dollar store I gave my shade a little shine!

Ok...so it came out pretty nice. Just not loving it!
Plus I plan on getting white curtains and I'm stilll debating on the table.
I know I'm definitely gonna cover the cushions with a cool pattern, but I'm not sure if I want to paint the table yet. Oh decisions!

So take two!

I took the Keylor route and used plexi glass
It was 5.99 a sheet at Hobby Lobby and I had a 40% coupon!
The burlap is also from Hobby Lobby! I got 2 yards, the total was around 8 dollars

 Added more tacks!

This is how I hung the shade, with a tension rod.

It looks so much better!

I now think I want a cool chandelier...but this shade is definitely a great start!

It's Friday!

Enjoy!!

Chevron Madness!

So I decided to get in on this chevron madness that's going around!
I have been admiring everyone's wonderful work, but was a little nervous to get in on the action! But HEY its worth a try...right!?
Remember, I'm the girl who doesn't read instructions, never lets the paint dry all the way, and is impatient about everything. SO doing something that requires that much time and effort gave me a cold sweat!
But hey if they can do it, so can I!
(but I'll start off small!!)
I started off with a black tray! I absolutely fell in LOVE with it when I saw it at Marshalls! The fact that it was only $6.00 made me love it even more!
But just like everything else in my house...it changes pretty quick!

1.) I spray painted about 3 light coats of Krylon's dual in white and one heavier coat.
Sorry I didn't show a picture of the taping process...I was concentrating really hard!!
2.) I lightly sanded in between coat.
3.) I used nail polish remover to touch up the parts that bled through.
4.) I added a coat of clear glaze to the tray, but sanded off most of it everywhere except the center, to give it an antique feel.

I'm officially hooked!
What else can I Chervon! :)

Fabulous Finds Friday!!

It's Friday!!

I'm suppose to be packing, but unfortunately I'm on the the phone with the airline trying to get an earlier flight due to the weather advisory.

So in order to keep my blood pressure reaching an all time high, I will talk about the cool stuff I found today!

I love the gold trim on this old filing cabinet!
I plan on painting it white and using it as a night stand in the master bedroom!

These are just some other trinkets that saw and had to have!

I got the spoons for a project I needed to finish for the dinning room!

Picture frames, fabric and of course my trusty glue gun,
I created this cool gallery wall in the dinning room!

 Update! 09/30/11

I found a plate at the Goodwill for $1.99

LOVE and think it fits in the gallery wall perfect!
